Welcome to Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina

Kill Devil Hills received its municipal charter from the North Carolina General Assembly on March 6, 1953.  Since then, we have become a very popular family vacation retreat. 

 

Situated in the near geographic middle of the northern Dare County beaches, Kill Devil Hills is the largest municipality in Dare County with a year-round population of almost 7,000 people.  We are proud to be the site of the first heavier-than-air powered flight.  On December 17, 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright were successful in making four flights at the base of the big hill that is now a part of the Wright Brothers National Memorial...

Change in Residential Solid Waste Collections Approved
On Monday, August 11, 2008 the Board of Commissioners took action to reduce residential solid waste collections to once per week during the off-season months in the fall, winter and spring.  Please click here for further details.
